6th National Research Methodology Workshop August, 2014
Around Ninty-four academicians mostly professional delegates, faculty members, research scholars and students stepped up to take part in the four days national research methodology workshop organized by Prestige Institute of Management, Gwalior during 21st August to 24th August, 2014. Research and Extension of knowledge are matters of wider and deeper concern for institutions of higher education. To increase the contribution of Indians in research worldwide and to develop deeper understanding in the field of management, the institute started organizing research methodology workshop six years back.
The workshop began with the inaugural ceremony on 21st Aug, 2014. Chief Guest Mr. Dinesh Yadav,Director,S & T, Indian Railways, CAMTECH, Guest of Honour Mr. Manvendra Dwivedi, GM, Nai Duniya, Gwalior inaugurated the workshop by lightening the lamp.
The key resource person Dr. S. S. Bhakar conducted the first session on research problem formulation, research design, objective framing and data collection. Second session was on data tabulation which was conducted by Dr. Bhakar in lab where he guided participants on how to feed data in PASW software, thus learning by doing was the main method used in the workshop.
Second day started with a session on How to write a good PhD Thesis and later the whole day proved to be a great learning session for all of us where four sessions were conducted on hypothesis testing, parametric and non parametric tools, analysis of variance- univariate, bivariate as well as analysis of covariances. The day ended with group activity. Third day various sessions on statistics of regression including bivariate, multivariate and mediation models in addition to exploratory factor analysis were detailed in addition to Confirmatory Factor analysis and group activity again.
A special session on Research in Defense was conducted by Dr. N. Soundara Rajan, Sr.Project Manager & Chairman (Corporate Policy Making Council),BDL-DRDO,Hyderabad, TG.
On fourth and the last day of the workshop a session on Structural Equation Modelling was held and the whole day was given to groups so as to develop their research article by practically applying the tools used and was followed by presentation of the same. This is done in order to ensure the learning and therefore, the success of this workshop which has enhanced the same.
In all we developed 17 papers in this research methodology workshop. The papers written have to be edited by editorial board under the guidance of Dr. S. S. Bhakar and will be published in an edited book.
A session on ‘Joy of Research’ was taken by Dr. N. Ravichandran, Professor, IIM Ahmedabad to enlighten the participants with real worth of research and the need of research in the overall development of the nation.
In the valedictory session, Chief Guest, Shri Naveen Dhiman, Regional Manager, SBI, Gwalior congratulated the organizers and Guest of Honor- Shri Ashok Khandelwal, Deputy Accountant General, AG Office, Gwalior addressed the gathering and emphasized on the importance of research in higher education for augmentation and enrichment of knowledge. A report on four days workshop was presented by the coordinator of the workshop, Prof. Chanda Gulati. In short the workshop was a grand success. Prof. N. Ravichandran, IIM Ahmedabad was felicitated for his contribution in the field of research. The results of post-workshop discussions and feedback from the external delegates,faculty members and students indicated that the pursuing research and an academic career might be more appealing if it is research oriented. They expressed interest in returning to the next RM Workshop and found working knowledge of PASW Software immensely useful for their professional development and even few industrial delegates emphasized to promote the workshop to research oriented organizations. The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Chanda Gulati and Dr. Shilpa Sankpal.
